Join us for a relaxed artist workshop in celebration of our exhibition Sentinel: Seabirds of Aotearoa.

Renowned wildlife artist Erin Forsyth will lead this 1.5-hour workshop, featuring a unique opportunity to study a mounted shearwater specimen on loan from Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira.

Erin's work is featured in prestigious collections like the Parliamentary Service Collection, Auckland War Memorial Museum, and Wallace Arts Trust. She illustrates the Department of Conservation’s annual Loder Cup award and is a member of the New Zealand and American Botanical Art Societies.

In this workshop, Erin will share her techniques and discuss the role of science communication in art. Spaces are limited so book now to be a part of this unique opportunity!

About Erin Forsyth

Erin Forsyth is an artist specialising in botanical and wildlife illustration and murals. Her practice explores the relationship between humankind and the natural world with an emphasis on science communication drawing attention to the diversity of life on earth. Examples of Erin’s work are held in the public collections of the Parliamentary Service Collection (Beehive), Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, Puke Ariki Museum, Wallace Arts Trust, Auckland Council and on the walls of city streets and homes around the country.

You'll learn various drawing techniques, including observational skills, shading, and texture. Erin Forsyth will also cover how to capture the unique characteristics of seabirds and discuss how her work intersects art and science communication.

Everyone will be studying the same mounted shearwater specimen, allowing you to focus on capturing the intricate details and unique features of this seabird. Erin will also supply photos of the shearwater so you can work from some images at home.

The workshop is designed for beginners to advanced artists. Erin Forsyth will provide guidance tailored to your level of experience.

We will provide paper, pencils, and charcoal for the workshop. If you prefer to use other mediums, feel free to bring your own sketchbooks and supplies.

The workshop is best suited for ages 14 and up.

Spaces are limited to twenty and tend to fill up quickly, so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
